Blyertspenna is a study on developing closeness with my cousin, Kristina, who is nonverbal due to autism. By observing her body language, I am trying to deepen my relationship with her through the use of the photographic medium. Even though she cannot write, she always holds a pencil in her hand. Focusing on the pencil, which has lost its original use, I pay attention to her hand gestures to gain a better understanding of the importance of this item. By using still life photography and fragments of everyday moments of intimacy, I aim to portray the protected environment that has been built for her and to explore photography as a tool for connection when speech is not an option.
