My first series of self-portraits were taken in 2013. When making them, I felt a sense of control over my own body, and found a connection to intimacy through the taking of a photograph. The objectivity of photography served as a way of trying to understand myself but it also made my insecurities become more real. I began dealing with simple yet crucial questions like, “What is beauty, and am I beautiful?”, “What’s my identity?”, “What does it mean to be loved?”, “What is home?”. The same year I met my partner and have been photographing him alongside myself for the last decade. Through the years together I found solace in taking pictures of him while trying to answer many of my own self-reflective questions.

This body of work is more than an exploration of myself, my partner, our relationship, our lives and experiences; both individual and shared. It seeks to offer a nuanced documentary and emotional portrayal of the complexities behind the notions of mortality, the roles of gender, daily routine, and introspection. Seeing how we have changed as we have aged. The growth in our lives through the years. It is in the small quiet moments captured that illustrates who we are and who we were.
